Things I'd Tell You as a First-Born Daughter Before You Book a Brand Shoot: 3 Things to Figure Out First

Because your brand photos should look like YOU, not like you borrowed someone else's personality for the afternoon.

Listen, as a first-born daughter, I have a few things to say.

I'm going to assume responsibility for things nobody asked me to, overthink the details, and make sure we're prepared before we even get started.

So before you fill out my brand photography questionnaire, there are three things I'd love for you to think about.

Not because I need you to have your entire personal brand figured out. That's what we're here to work on together.

But because the best brand photos don't happen when you show up with three outfits and a Pinterest board full of poses.

They happen when we have a little clarity about WHO we're photographing, WHAT we're communicating, and HOW we're going to make people remember you.

Let's get into it.

1. Your Style: Find the Outfit That Makes People Stop and Ask Where You Got It.

First things first. Let's talk about your closet.

And no, I'm not asking you to show up wearing the same leggings and oversized sweatshirt you wear to run errands.

Your brand photography wardrobe doesn't necessarily need to reflect what you wear every single day. It should reflect the version of yourself you WANT people to see when they interact with your business.

Think about it.

Do you have a coat you wear every once in a while that ALWAYS gets compliments?

A pair of shoes that every girl and their mom asks where you got them?

Sunglasses, a handbag, a statement jacket, or an outfit that makes you feel like an absolute force of nature?

BUILD AN OUTFIT AROUND THAT.

I love incorporating two or three different looks into a brand shoot. Once we establish the concepts and the stories we need to tell to market your business, we can choose outfits that help bring those concepts to life.

Maybe one look is polished and professional. Another is a little more editorial. And the third? Well, maybe it's the outfit that makes you feel like you could walk into a room and own the damn place.

Your clothes are part of your visual identity. They help people recognize you, remember you, and get a feel for your personality before they ever read a single caption.

And since I don't photograph basic bitches, we're going to have some fun with it.

2. Your Attitude, Shyness, and Awkwardness Are Your SUPERPOWER.

I need you to stop trying to be someone you're not.

Seriously.

Are you a little awkward in front of the camera? Great. Are you naturally sarcastic? Bring it. Do you have a very specific interest that only five other people in the world understand?

WE'RE USING IT.

Your quirks are not things we need to hide during your brand shoot. They're opportunities to create something that actually feels like you.

Have an attitude? Let's play that up.

Shy? We can create images that feel a little more understated, thoughtful, and intimate.

Awkward? Let's capture the personality behind it.

Obsessed with something niche? Bring it as a prop. Create a visual connection with the people who share that interest. Those little details can become the things that make someone feel like they've found their people.

You know who you are at your core. And if you don't, I suggest going to sit in silence by a river until you figure it out.

But seriously, your personal brand doesn't need to be a polished, watered-down version of yourself.

This isn't high school in the early 2000s. We're not trying to blend in with everyone else.

We're TRYING to stand out.

And the things you think make you a little weird might actually be the things that make your ideal clients connect with you.

3. Get Clear on Who You Want to Be Known For. Then Channel Her.

This one is important.

When someone recommends you to a potential client, what do you WANT them to say?

What do you want people to immediately associate with your name?

Are you the go-to expert for women navigating a major life transition? The realtor who makes buying a home feel less overwhelming? The wellness professional who helps busy moms finally prioritize themselves? The beauty business owner who makes every client feel like the best version of themselves?

Get specific.

Who are you trying to reach? What do you offer? What do you want to be known for?

That's what we're marketing.

And that's who we need to capture in your brand photos.

I want your images to communicate more than just what you look like. I want them to show the experience of working with you, the personality behind your business, and the expertise you bring to the table.

Because when someone says:

"OMG. YOU HAVE TO BOOK [YOUR NAME]!"

We want that person to pull up your website or Instagram and immediately think:

"THAT'S HER!"

There should be a connection between what people hear about you, what they read about you, and what they SEE when they land on your page.

That's what a strong personal brand does.

Your Brand Shoot Is the Beginning of the Visual Story, Not the Beginning of Your Identity.

Here's the thing.

You do not need to have all of this perfectly figured out before booking a brand shoot.

You don't need a 47-page brand strategy, a closet full of designer clothes, or an elevator pitch that sounds like it was written by a corporate marketing department.

But having a little clarity around your style, personality, and the reputation you want to build gives us somewhere to start.

And that's where I come in.

As a brand photographer serving Berks County, Lancaster County, and the surrounding Pennsylvania areas, I work with women business owners to create intentional, personality-filled brand photography that helps them show up confidently and consistently.

We work through the concepts, plan your outfits, identify the stories your business needs to tell, and create images that actually have a purpose.

Because you don't need another folder of pretty pictures that sit on your desktop.

You need images that make people stop scrolling, recognize your brand, and remember YOU.

Ready to build a brand people recognize?

Let's make some damn good photos.
