Why Your Brand Isn’t Landing (And It’s Not a Strategy Problem)
For the longest time, my messaging sounded right… but didn’t feel like me.
It checked the boxes.
It followed the rules.
It looked polished, professional, and “on brand.”
And somehow… it still fell flat.
At first, I blamed it on being in the industry too long. As a branding photographer, I’m constantly surrounded by messaging, marketing strategies, and content advice. I assumed I had just absorbed so much of it that my voice started blending in with everyone else’s.
But the truth was simpler. And a little harder to admit.
I was editing myself before I ever shared a thought.
The Problem Wasn’t My Branding… It Was Me Holding Back
I’ve always been told I have an “attitude.”
Growing up, that didn’t exactly come with praise.
It got me grounded. It got me labeled as difficult. It made me feel like I needed to tone it down to be more accepted.
So I did what a lot of us do.
I refined it.
Softened it.
Made myself more palatable.
And while that version of me worked in certain environments… it didn’t work in my business.
Because when you build a personal brand, especially working with a branding photographer, people aren’t connecting with how polished you are.
They’re connecting with how real you are.
And I wasn’t being fully real.
The Shift That Changed Everything
Recently, I had a realization that completely reframed how I see my voice, my business, and the clients I work with.
What if the thing you’ve been told to tone down…
is actually the thing that’s meant to lead?
For me, that thing is my attitude.
Not in the immature, reactive way it showed up when I was younger.
But in the way it’s evolved into something much more powerful:
The willingness to question things
The confidence to do things differently
The boldness to go after what I actually want
That “attitude” is the reason I became a branding photographer in the first place. It’s why I didn’t settle into a path that didn’t feel aligned. And it’s why I care so deeply about helping other women show up in a way that actually reflects who they are.
What This Means for Your Brand
Here’s what I see all the time when I work with clients:
They come into a brand shoot thinking they need to be more polished.
More put together.
More “professional.”
But what they actually need… is attitude.
The attitude that comes with not editing yourself.
Because the truth is, your brand doesn’t stand out because it’s perfect.
It stands out because it’s distinct.
And that distinctiveness usually comes from the exact trait you’ve been taught to hide.
As a branding photographer, my job isn’t just to take beautiful photos. It’s to help you access that version of yourself—the one that feels a little edgy, a little bold, maybe even a little uncomfortable at first.
Because that’s the version people remember.
The Real Reason Your Branding Feels Off
If your content isn’t landing…
If your messaging feels flat…
If you feel like you’re showing up consistently but not actually connecting…
It’s probably not because you need a better strategy.
It’s because you’re holding something back.
And most of the time, it’s not obvious.
It’s subtle. It’s learned. It’s been reinforced over years of trying to fit in, be liked, or be understood.
But in branding, fitting in is the fastest way to be overlooked.
Stop Polishing. Start Owning.
I’m not interested in helping women create a more polished version of themselves.
There are plenty of people teaching that.
What I care about, as a branding photographer, is helping you uncover the part of you that’s already there… and bring it forward.
The part that:
Has opinions
Challenges the norm
Wants more
Doesn’t quite fit the mold
Because if it’s always been there, it’s not the problem.
It’s the point.
Final Thought
You don’t need better branding.
You need less editing of yourself.
And when you start showing up from that place?
That’s when everything clicks—your content, your photos, your messaging, your confidence.
That’s when people stop scrolling… and start paying attention.
If you’re ready to explore what that looks like for you, working with a branding photographer isn’t just about getting new photos—it’s about stepping into a version of yourself that actually feels aligned.
And trust me… she’s already in there.
